Oak Bay High is excited to welcome participants from around the province this week for the AAA Boys High School Volleyball Championships, taking place Nov. 29 to Dec. 2. at Oak Bay High and Lansdowne Middle School.
In total, 16 teams qualified to play in the championship tournament including the Island representatives and Zone Champions Oak Bay Barbers and the Reynolds Roadrunners.
Both Reynolds and Oak Bay kick off their quest for top-spot on Nov. 29 at 12:00pm; Reynolds takes on Burnaby Central at Lansdowne Middle School, while Oak Bay is up against Steveston-London at Oak Bay High (small gym).
Each team will play a best-of-three (3) match against the other three (3) teams in their respective pools. Their performance in the initial pool play will the play-off bracket for both teams. The gold medal game is on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3:30pm at Oak Bay (big gym).
“Our team goal is to finish top eight (8). But to get there, we need to win that first playoff game,” said Oak Bay Barbers Head Coach, Al Carmichael. “We have a wall at the end of the gym that has all our provincial championship placings hanging on it for top eight (8) finish, so that’s our wall game. If you win that game, you are forever part of the lore, you’re up on that wall.”
This is the first time in over 35 years that the provincial championship has been hosted by a Victoria team and the twenty-second straight appearance for Oak Bay at the tournament.
