Four rhythmic gymnasts from West Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Club (WCRG) were part of a delegation representing Zone 6 (Vancouver Island-Central Coast) at the 2024 BC Winter Games in Lhtako Quesnel this past weekend. Together they brought home 12 medals – 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze which represents approximately one fifth of what zone 6 earned at the games in all sports combined. The gymnasts each competed in individual apparatus and a group hoop routine.

Caitlin van Gerven – Provincial 2 – All Around gold medalist, silver medal in hoop, bronze medal in free.

Baya Cherif – Western 1-  All around silver medalist, gold medal in ball, silver medal in free and bronze medal in hoop

Anna Davison – Western 2 – All around bronze medalist, silver medal in ball, bronze in free, bronze in hoop.

Flavia Perez – Western 2 – 5th place all around, 4th place in free and ball, 5th place in clubs

Rhythmic Gymnastics is an Olympic Sport that combines athleticism with flexibility and dance while manipulating hand-held apparatus such as hoop, ball, rope, clubs and ribbon.

 

WCRG has been serving the Greater Victoria community for over 40 years offering recreational, pre-competitive and competitive programs for ages 3 and up. WCRG is a registered non-profit organization almost entirely run by volunteers. The team trains out of Shoreline Community School and St. Margaret’s School.
