Last weekend, the stage was set for a remarkable display of highland dance at Port Alberni, where the rhythm met grace. Special thanks to Patti MacKenzie and the Port Alberni Highland Dancers Association. The competition was fierce, and the talent was top-notch. As a sports photographer, it was a privilege to capture the essence of each performance. Here are the standout dancers who clinched the Aggregate in their categories:
- Beginner 7 & Under 9: A stellar performance by Hannah McNaughton from Brigadoon Dance Academy, who danced her way to the top.
- Beginner 9 & Under 11: Maggie Williams from Cassandra Karras School of Highland Dance, showcasing poise and precision beyond her years .
- Beginner 11 & Over: Bronwen Williams from Cassandra Karras School of Highland Dance, a true embodiment of the highland spirit.
- Novice: Kyla de Villiers, whose footwork and flair were simply captivating.
- Intermediate: Leeya de Villiers, a dancer who commands attention with every step.
- Premier Under 16: A tie that speaks volumes of the talent level, with Taylor Rollins of Kathy White’s Highland Dance Academy and Morgan Woiden from Judy Hogg’s Celtic Rhythm sharing the spotlight.
- Premier 16 & Over: Breanne Smith from Judy Hogg’s Celtic Rhythm, whose performance was nothing short of mesmerizing.
These dancers didn’t just compete; they inspired with every movement and leap. Congratulations to all for a memorable competition!
