Camosun College Athletics is pleased to announce that John Dedrick will be joining the Chargers as head coach of the women’s basketball team starting for the 2024-25 season.

John brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and an incredible resume having coached women’s basketball at the University of Alberta Augustana in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and with the University of Alberta Pandas and the Grant MacEwan Griffins in USport. He was also the girl’s technical director with GOOD Hoops Basketball, a teacher and coach at the high school level, and is currently head of basketball at Shawnigan Lake School.

“I am excited to welcome John as the new head coach of the Chargers women’s basketball program. John’s work at the CCAA and USport levels lend to a heightened caliber of professionalism and experience that is not easily matched,” said Scot Cuachon, Manager, Athletics and Student Life. “He is a teacher and educator first, and approaches the coaching practice in a comprehensive, holistic, and student-athlete centered fashion.”

“I am extremely excited to become part of the legacy of basketball excellence on Vancouver Island and with Camosun College in particular. I look forward to creating and building upon a culture with the Chargers that attracts outstanding female student-athletes,” said Dedrick. “Having a sense of family, with a coaching staff who cares, and athletes who play for more than just themselves, has been a huge ingredient of all teams that I’ve been a part of and inevitably leads to success. I look forward to meeting, interacting with, and simply being a resource for local high school programs.”

“I am thrilled to witness the dynamic and transformative environment John will cultivate, and the enriching experiences he will foster for our student-athletes,” added Cuachon. “With his guidance, our women’s basketball team is poised to thrive both on and off the court, shaping future leaders and champions.”
