August 23, 2024 Colwood,BC (ISN) – The Victoria Shamrocks advanced to the Mann Cup for the first time since 2019, sweeping the Langley Thunder 4-0 in the series with a 13-7 win Friday evening in front of 2,533 fans at the Q Centre in Colwood, BC to advance to the Mann Cup national championship.

The Shamrocks will look to hoist their 10th Senior ‘A’ National Lacrosse Championship in the franchise’s storied history, when they meet the winner of the Major Series Lacrosse League. The Six Nations Chiefs tied up their best-of-seven series against the Peterborough Lakers 2-2 Thursday evening. The Shamrocks sweep will give themselves time to reset before the Mann Cup, while the MLS Chiefs and Lakers battle it out to decide their series.

The Victoria Shamrocks would trail the Thunder Friday night falling behind 4-2 by early in the 2nd period before rattling off eight unanswered goals in the same period to take a commanding 10-4 lead into the final frame. Play would get heated much of the last twenty minutes as Langley looked unsuccessfully to shake Victoria off their game. Teams would trade goals in the third period, the Thunder unable to make up the difference on the scoreboard, as the  Shamrocks would finish with the 13-7 win to take the 2024 WLA Championship

‘Rocks players Casey Wilson and Clarke Petterson would be selected as the game’s first and second stars respectively, each scoring and assisting twice in the game.  Victoria’s captain would take third star honours with two goals, four “helpers”, and was an important, dangerous distraction all game for Langley. The Victoria Shamrocks would pepper the Langley Thunder 62-40, as the Shamrock’s goalie Chris Origleri would provide the backstop in the victory.
