Three matches and three sweeps on Saturday in men’s PACWEST volleyball with the Mariners, Chargers and Blues each winning.
VIU Mariners 3 – 26-24, 25-15, 25-22
UFV Cascades 0
After a five-set marathon on Friday the Mariners made quick work of the Cascades on Saturday afternoon. Eight players tallied at least one kill led by Adam Kapteyn’s 12 and Andre DeLacerda-Pires added nine.
The Cascades offence kept them in the first set but the Mariners came through with the 26-24 victory. After that the Cascades were quiet. Both Jackson Obst and Graeme Hughes each recorded four kills.
Camosun Chargers 3 – 25-15, 25-8, 25-21
CBC Bearcats 0
The Chargers (15-5) picked up where they left off on Friday and dominated the Bearcats (1-17) for their 15th win of the season. Vitor Periera was a force with 14 kills and only four errors while Eduardo Bida had eight kills and 14 digs in the win.
For the second straight day the Bearcats played with a short bench of only seven players. Both Jakob Boschmann and Matthew Penner collected five kills each to lead their team.
Capilano Blues 3 – 25-19, 25-22, 25-21
COTR Avalanche 0
With Saturday’s victory the Blues (13-5) have now won eight of their last 10 matches and move to 7-3 on the road. For the second straight match Markus Bratsberg led the way with 10 kills and Nikita Marchenkov had six.
The Avalanche (8-12) playing in their final home match were led by their main offensive weapon Caleb Peters who had 10 kills. Meanwhile Gustavo Bertoli added eight but it wasn’t enough in the three-set sweep.
