Rugby Canada, in partnership with our 10 Provincial Unions, has launched the 2019 National Training and Education Calendar.

The Calendar includes coach education courses, match official education courses, as well as First Aid in Rugby. In addition to certification courses, there are also a number of professional development workshops on offer, including Rugby Canada’s National Key Themes and the Match Official Professional Development Webinar Series.

You can find a list of training and education courses in your province by visiting training.rugbycanada.ca under Course Listing.

Some noteworthy additions to the Training and Education calendar are:

  • ‘My Coaching Philosophy’ with New Zealand Head Coach Clark Laidlaw on March 6th, 2019 in Vancouver, BC.
  • ‘Refereeing Sevens’ with World Rugby Sevens Referee Manager Paddy O’Brien on March 6th, 2019 in Vancouver, BC.
  • Match Official Professional Development Webinar Series running once a month throughout the year.

Rugby Canada also continues to ensure that Player Welfare is our number one priority. We ask that all coaches and match officials adhere to Rugby Canada’s PlaySmart guidelines as they are Rugby Canada’s minimum standards of coaching and officiating across the country. More information about the requirements of a coach and referee can be found by visiting playsmart.rugbycanada.ca.

Coaches can also find a variety of multi-sport modules offered by their Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representative. To find your PTCR please visit https://www.coach.ca/-p140497. Officials are invited to their local society’s professional development sessions. Please visit your local Provincial Union or Referee Society website for more information.

The Calendar will have more training and education courses added over the coming months. If you have any questions regarding Training and Education for Match Officiating please contact Nathan Abdelnour ([email protected]), and for Coaching please contact Paul Hunter ([email protected]).
