In front of a huge crowd at Camosun the Chargers stopped the Mariners bid for an undefeated season by handing them a four-set loss on Saturday. Megan Ireland paced the offensive attack with 16 kills while Mika Yamada collected 12 kills and 20 digs. Mychaela Roelants was outstanding in the libero position with 25 digs in her final regular season match.

For the first time this season the Mariners find themselves on the losing end. Both Taylor Wickson and Karoline Tormena each had 10 kills. Tormena added 13 digs and Chantal Cumming in her final regular season match recorded 31 assists.

The Mariners (23-1) locked up first place weeks ago and will have an automatic bye in the PACWEST semi-final next weekend at COTR. The Chargers (16-8) have finished as the third seed and will face the host Avalanche (4-20) on Thursday night in a PACWEST quarterfinal.

Capilano Blues 2

An exciting match on Saturday as both teams wrapped up the regular season. The Blues jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Royals came storming back to win the match in five. Vania Oliveira led the Royals attack with 13 kills as 11 players recorded at least one smash. Caet McCorkell was solid on both sides with eight kills and 15 digs.

The Blues let this one slip away but perhaps played their best match of the season. Meghan Koven and Isabela Lima each tallied 13 kills and double digit digs. Koven with 16 and Lima had 12. Setter Kelsey Towers had a monster match with 41 assists and 13 digs.

The Royals (18-6) finish as the second seed and receive the first round bye at the PACWEST championship next week. The Blues (8-16) are the fifth seed and will face the UFV Cascades (14-10) in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
