For the first time since 2007 the VIU Mariners are PACWEST champions after a four-set victory over the four time defending champion Camosun Chargers on Saturday night.
The Mariners were impressive in every aspect adding another 18 blocks to their incredible tournament total and finish with 77 over the course of three matches. Doug Groenedijk finished with eight and Vedran Obradovich and Keal Prince each added three.
Braydon Brouwer was named Player of the Match leading the Mariners offensively with 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Obradovich was solid as well with 14 kills and eight digs.
On the losing side the Chargers were led by Player of the Match Vitor Periera and his 17 kills and 12 digs. Eduardo Bida added 11 kills and seven digs.
The Mariners will now represent the PACWEST at the CCAA National championship in two weeks at Red Deer College.
