March 10th, 2019 Vancouver, BC ( ISN ) – The men’s Canada Sevens squad, making amends for a point differential cup elimination in pool play Saturday, made a statement with a dominating 33-7 win over Spain Sunday morning in Challenge Trophy quarter final play.
Connor Braid, who is dominating play this tournament, would tally his fifth and sixth trys of the tournament and add four converts , and Matt Mullins would also add a pair of tries to propel Canada in to the semi-finals of the Challenge Trophy. Phil Berna would also add a try in the lopsided win.
Braid and Mullins would bring the Canadian fans to their feet early with there side line speed to put down trys in the first, third and fourth minutes of the match. A late first half try by Spain’s Inaki Mateu would be the only test for Canada in the match. Phil Berna would dot the ball down at the ten minute mark in the second half. Matt Mullins would add his fourth try of the Vancouver Sevens, to close out the match.
Canada now advances to play Scotland at 1:52 pm PST in the semi final match.
