BC Rugby is thrilled to announce that in partnership with our Member Clubs, we are offering more TRY Rugby programs across BC this Spring!  Events are being held across the Province on March 31st between 10:00am – 12:00pm.  These sessions are primarily aimed at children aged 5-12 and are free to attend.

A total of 8 clubs across the Lower Mainland and Island, giving children in the Vancouver, Burnaby, South Surrey, North Shore, Tri-Cities, Victoria and Fraser Valley areas a chance to get their hands on a rugby ball for the first time.  After raw excitement of the HSBC Canada Sevens tournament at BC Place at the start of the month and the pride of hosting the Webb Ellis Cup in Vancouver and Victoria as part of the 2019 Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, these TRY Rugby events are the perfect follow up for any young children inspired by what they have seen on the TV or in the stadium.

A TRY Rugby Event is a non-contact rugby event held as an introduction to the game for participants of any age. These events are typically flag rugby introductory sessions (Rookie Rugby) or small jamborees for potential players who are new to the game and want to give it a go.  Initiatives of this scope and scale are important contributors to youth rugby development in BC, as they serve to identify and engage young aspiring players who can pursue the sport of rugby through both club and school programs, including the HSBC Rookie Rugby programs presented by Honda.

The rugby played at a TRY Rugby event is different to what you see on televised games.  There is no contact between players and the emphasis is on fun, enjoyment, ball handling skills, socialising and exercise.  It is a great way for young people to get a first taste of the wonderful sport of rugby.
It is also an opportunity for parents to meet other rugby families, connect with their local rugby clubs and understand what makes rugby such an appealing and accessible sport.  Coaches and club officials will be on hand at each venue to answer any questions you might have about Rugby and how to get involved on a regular basis.
