Hockey Canada has announced the addition of defenceman Philippe Myers (Moncton, N.B./Philadelphia, NHL) to its roster for the 2019 IIHF World Championship, May 10-26 in Košice and Bratislava, Slovakia.
In his first season with the Philadelphia Flyers, Myers recorded one goal and one assist in 21 games, and added nine goals and 24 assists in 53 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL). His most recent international experience includes winning a silver medal with Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, and suiting up with Team Atlantic at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Myers also helped lead the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) to the 2016 Memorial Cup.
Canada is in search of its first gold medal at the IIHF World Championship since 2016, facing off against Finland, Denmark, Great Britain, France, Germany, the host Slovakians and the United States in the preliminary round before the tournament wraps up with the bronze and gold medal games on May 26.
