Ray Barkwill is joining Canada’s Under-18’s Coaching Staff.

Rugby Canada is delighted to announce that recently retired Canadian international Ray Barkwill is joining Canada’s Under-18’s Coaching Staff for their upcoming July international series.

The inspirational hooker, who won 56-caps between 2012 and 2018 and competed at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, announced his retirement last month from the sport due to injury sustained during last year’s repechage in France.

“We are excited to have Ray join our coaching staff this Summer,” said Mike Curran, Canada U18 head coach. “Ray is one of the most inspirational players to wear the Canadian jersey and his experience will undoubtedly bring strong leadership to our team as we look to grow the next generation of rugby talent.”

Canada’s U18 Team will host their North American rivals USA U18 at Brentwood College on Vancouver Island, with game days on July 7, 10 & 14.

“Delighted for Ray to transition to a coaching role with our Canada U18 Team,” said Kingsley Jones, head coach of Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team. “For the success of our game moving forward it’s imperative for our national team athletes to stay involved and give back after they retire. I know that the up-and-coming players on our U18 side will benefit from his knowledge and passion for the game,” he added.

The first two game days on July 7 and 10 will see both teams roll through their rosters, giving all attendees a chance to start either match and impress selectors. The third and final game of the series on July 14th will be considered a full international match with both teams fielding their strongest side. That match kicks off at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
