The Victoria Shamrocks find themselves in an 0-3 hole to start the season after losing to the Burnaby Lakers Friday night by a score of 8-5. Last season, the ‘Rocks lost 2 of their first 3 games. Being 0-3 is an unusual sight for the Shamrocks Nation. They hope to find better luck when they hit the road next weekend with a double dose of action, taking on Nanaimo and the 2019 WLA decorated champs, Maple Ridge.

From the Shamrocks perspective, it was a game where they started hot but fell flat as the game progressed. The return of Jesse King appeared to give the Shamrocks a lift early on when he scored 2:37 into the first period. However, that would be his only goal of the night. King wound up with 2 points and 6 shots. Cody Hagedorn was solid in his first start and now has a 5.85 GAA along with a 0.886 save % in 2 appearances this season.

As for the Burnaby Lakers, they continue their undefeated streak, sitting a pretty 3-0. Daryl Veltman and Robert Church each had 2 goals and an assist for the Lakers – who got another sensational performance from their netminder Eric Penny. Penny stopped 45 of the 50 shots he faced tonight. He made critical stops when the Shamrocks attacked in the final minutes of the game. Penny held the Shamrocks scoreless in the 3rd period when Burnaby outscored Victoria 4-0.
