In a league where just 2 points separate 1st place from 5th place, every win takes on extra importance. Tonight’s 10-5 win over the Nanaimo Timbermen took on even greater importance as it secured the season series for the Shamrocks, and the WLA tiebreaker should the two clubs be even after the regular season concludes.
Jesse King got the party started for the Shamrocks on the games first shot, just 7 seconds into the contest, and the Shamrocks never really looked back.
Nanaimo cut into the Shamrocks early lead in the 2nd period to make it a one-goal game at 5-4, but that was ultimately as close as the Timbermen would get in this contest as the Shamrocks pulled away late in the 2nd and in the 3rd.
Chris Boushy was the offensive catalyst on the night as he popped in 4 goals and added an assist for a 5 point night. Jesse King with 2, and Larson Sundown, Tyler Burton, Matt Yager, and Josh Fagan rounded out the scoring for the Shamrocks.
In goal, Pete Dubenski who the Shamrocks acquired earlier in the season from the Timbermen was outstanding on the night as he made 44 saves on 49 Nanaimo shots. Dubenski’s efforts earned him 2nd-star honours on the night.
Jon Phillips paced the Nanaimo attack with 2+1 on the night while Charles Claxton turned aside 36 of 46 shots for Nanaimo who saw their 3 game winning streak come to an end. With the loss, the Timbermen fall to 7-3-0 on the year.
Up next for the Shamrocks is a trip to Burnaby to take on the Lakers tomorrow evening at 7:00 pm
