The West Kelowna Warriors snap their eight game losing streak after defeating the Vernon Vipers 4-0.
Both clubs got themselves into penalty trouble early on with a combined 5 power play attempts, but both clubs played stout defensively to keep it scoreless after one. The best scoring chance of the period came from Warriors forward Jacob Brockman who hit the crossbar. Shots on goal 5-4 Warriors in the first.
The second saw the Warriors explode with a trio of goals. First after the Warriors forced a turnover in the neutral zone, Brendan Pigeon was able to find Austin Chorney to make it 1-0. Then on the Warriors 5th power play attempt Brandon Dent would fire a shot from the left side circle which would go off the face of Lucas Cullen and in. Cullen appeared to be hurt but immediately shook it off after having Athletic Therapist Paige Shannon take a look. Then only two minutes later Austin Chorney would tally his second of the night to make it 3-0 Warriors. It would be the first time the Warriors led by 3 goals or more since the September 13th game in Langley. Shots 16-14 Warriors after two periods of play.
Warriors were not known as a solid third period club. Most games they’ve been close in take an ugly turn in the final frame, but not today. After some solid penalty killing the Warriors would force play back inside the Vipers zone leading to Ryan Novecosky scoring his second of the year to extend the lead. Warriors went on to win 4-0. Rookie goaltender Johnny Derrick picked up his first career shutout stopping all 29 shots he faced.
