April 23,2025 Colwood BC (ISN) – The Cowichan Capitals staved off BCHL playoff elimination Wednesday night against the Victoria Grizzlies with a 6-5 win at the Q Centre.
The Grizzles, up 3-0 in the seven game, round two series, looked to close out the round in convincing fashion but the Capitals looked determined to keep the ice in at the Cowichan Community Centre at least for another 48 hours with a solid game effort.
Grizzlies’ Thomas Molson would score 2 of his three-goal performance on the night in the first period giving the Grizzlies the lead. Victoria’s Tobias Pitka would net a late power play goal to give a 3-2 edge to the Victoria Grizzlies after the first twenty minutes. Capitals would reply with goals by Carl Jacobson and a power play marker by Camden Bajzer to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
The Capitals would “capitalize” on some Grizzlies undisciplined play in the second period, scoring 4 goals in the period. Nicolas Beaudoin and Jack McAra would be the beneficiaries on two back-to-back power plays, to put their Capitals ahead in the match 4-3. Camden Charron would make it 5-3 at 13:36 of the middle frame, before the Grizzlies Molson would score is hat-trick goal to pull the Grizzlies to within a goal. With just over a minute remaining in the second period, Capital’s Jack McAra would score what would turn out to be the winning goal, his second of the night.
The Grizzlies would press Cowichan in the third period, looking otherwise steal away the series on home ice. A late Victoria power play with three minutes remaining would breath a little life into the home crowd as Victoria’s Tobias Pitka would pull his team to with a goal, finding the back of the Cowichan Capitals net to make it a 6-5 score.
The Capitals would take game four of the series, and their first win as the teams head back to Cowichan for game five action. The Grizzlies will look to close out round 2 on the road, while the Capitals continue their uphill battle to climb back into the series and the playoffs.
Game five will be on Friday night, April 25th. The puck drops at 7 PM
