Camosun Chargers vs VIU Mariners

The first five set match of the season and it was a dandy. The Mariners used their home crowd energy in the first two sets after raising their PACWEST championship banner and jumped out to a big lead. However in the third set the Chargers pulled some of that momentum away and used their own to win the next two sets and the match.

Three Chargers hit double digits in scoring on Saturday led by VItor Pereira and his 16 kills. Eduardo Bida was also a major factor with 15 kills and Dale MacDonell chipped in with 10. Setter Elvind Hettervik was outstanding for the second straight night and tallied 27 assists.

The Mariners offence weren’t able to find their next gear in the third, fourth and fifth sets. Dario De Queiroz-Pereira led the way with a match high 17 kills, six service aces and 10 digs and Braydon Brouwer was solid with 16 kills. Setter Jordan Davis was outstanding with 47 assists.

Next weekend the Chargers (2-0) will visit the CBC Bearcats (0-2) and the Mariners (0-2) will welcome the UFV Cascades (2-0).

After dropping the first set, the Royals woke up and flexed their muscle winning the next three and the match. The offence was led by Reid Marriott and his 15 kills while Greg Moore filled the middle with seven kills and four blocks. Ben Shand had a very well rounded match with eight kills, seven assists and four digs.

The Blues offence seemed to sputter after winning the first set. Rafael Hilario was solid leading the attack with 14 kills and Jacob Hopkins chipped in with seven kills.

Next weekend the Royals (2-0) travel to face the COTR Avalanche (0-0) while the Blues (0-2) have the weekend off.

UFV Cascades vs CBC Bearcats

The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead in front of a great crowd, even outlasting the Cascades in the second set.

However it wasn’t meant to be for the hometown Bearcats as the Cascades won the third set, then came back in both the fourth and fifth sets to claim the victory and steal one from the Bearcats.

Next weekend the Cascades (2-0) visit the VIU Mariners (0-2) and the Bearcats (0-2) welcome the Camosun Chargers (2-0).
