Canada Soccer’s Futsal National Team Head Coach Kyt Selaidopoulos has called 21 players for a three-day camp 12-15 December. The team will gather in Laval, QC as it continues to prepare for the Concacaf Futsal Championship scheduled for early 2020. The top four teams will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2020.

“Having these two camps to close out the year is vital to the continued progression of this program and we’re pleased and proud of the progress that this player pool has shown,” said Kyt Selaidopoulos, Canada Soccer’s Futsal National Team Head Coach. “As we move closer to the Concacaf Championship, we’ll have to make some tough decisions which is a testament to the work of this group and to the benefits of the expanded Canada Soccer Futsal Canadian Championship competition.”

After the camp, the team is scheduled to travel to San Jose, Costa Rica from 25 Jan to 2 February to play in a series of friendly matches against Costa Rica and another to be named Concacaf team. The friendly series against the three-time defending Concacaf Champions comes after a similar 2018 series against the Costa Ricans which provided the program with a strong test.

After coming within one point of qualification for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Columbia 2016, Selaidopoulos is confident that the program has taken the steps necessary to once again be a contender for a top-four finish.

“The baseline that was set in our first camp in November was several notches above where we began the process of qualification in 2016. We’re excited to see what this team can do when we get to the Concacaf Futsal Championship,” Selaidopoulos said.

Futsal is a unique, fast-paced indoor sport played across Canada and around the world. Canada Soccer is committed to the growth and promotion of the game.
