VIU Mariners 3 – 25-15, 25-15, 25-17

For the first time since the 2009-2010 season the PACWEST has a perfect women’s volleyball team. The Mariners completed a unblemished 24-0 season with a three-set sweep over the visiting Chargers on Saturday. They become the first ever team to win all 24 matches. The UBC Okanagan Heat finished 16-0 that season, eight matches fewer than this year’s Mariners. Danielle Groenendijk had another strong match with 11 kills and seven digs and both Andrea Cankovic and Karoline Tormena each tallied eight kills.
Meanwhile the Chargers were led by Rayelle Zacharuk who finished with seven kills. The Chargers captured the second spot in the standings and will have a first round playoff bye on Thursday and will get ready for a semi-final on Friday.
UFV Cascades 3 – 25-20, 25-20, 25-17
CBC Bearcats 0
With the three-set sweep the Cascades clinched fourth place in the standings. They will face the COTR Avalanche in Thursday’s quarterfinal at the PACWEST championship which will be held at Douglas College. Chelsea Kidd led the way with 11 kills and six digs and Amanda Matsui finished with seven kills and 14 digs.
The disappointing Bearcats season closes after Saturday’s loss. Megan Polant finished with 11 kills and Janae Bruinsma collected 10.
Capilano Blues 3 – 24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18
Douglas Royals 1
In a playoff preview the Blues beat up on the Royals recording a four-set victory. Meghan Koven had a match high 13 kills and Daphiny Kung tallied 11. The Royals meanwhile saw Emma Schill collect 10 kills.
Despite the loss the Royals (11-13) have finished third and will face the sixth seeded Blues (9-15) on Thursday in a PACWEST quarterfinal.
