Victoria Highlanders FC sign Mahdi Hammoud, pending league approval. Hammoud, a forward, is the second Highlanders Residency player to join Vikram Virk’s 2020 Pacific Coast Soccer League squad.

The 2002-born player is coming off an electric showing in the Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Division Two with the Highlanders Second Team. The goal-scoring threat recorded a division and league-leading 28 goals in 18 games in regular season play. He has also scored an additional seven goals in two Jackson Cup games up to this point.

“I think the first thing everyone would associate with Mahdi is goals. His goalscoring record over the last two seasons has been excellent and he is a person who wants to deliver for the team every game,” stated Virk. “He is well rounded, and it has been great seeing his growth as player and person over the last couple of seasons. This is a very good next step for him to showcase his ability and continue to develop.”

Hammoud gained some international experience as he joined the Lebanon U19 Team as they participated in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship 2020 Qualifiers late last year.

The Highlanders Residency product will join the previously announced Goteh Ntignee on the attacking side of the ball for the black and gold.

“I’m extremely excited to represent the Highlanders in the PCSL,” added Hammoud. “I love challenges and knowing we’re going to have a young fighting roster is just that much more exciting. I’m looking forward to the growth and development as the season progresses, both as a player and as a team collectively.”

The Highlanders open their season at Royal Athletic Park as they host the First Leg of the Juan De Fuca Plate against Vancouver TSS Rovers on Sunday, May 3rd. Kickoff is set for 2PM.
