Two Athletics Canada coaches have been selected to the Coaching Association of Canada’s 2021 Women in Coaching Canada Games Apprenticeship Program.
As part of the program, coaches Joni Colwell and Marit Neff will be participating in a series of professional development webinars and workshops, they will be actively involved in training camps, selection camps, and preparation competitions; and they will gain domestic multi-sport games experience at the 2021 Canada Games in Niagara, Ontario.
Each province and territory had the opportunity to send two female coaches to the Canada Games in apprenticeship roles. Coaches Colwell and Neff will represent their home provinces of New Brunswick and Saskatchewan, respectively.
“My goals for this program are to gain a greater knowledge in short and long term planning, tapering, race prep, athlete psychology, as well as, staff planning and coordination,” said Colwell. “I am excited for what the next year has to hold and look forward to working with the 2021 Team NB Canada Games team and coaching staff.”
“I want to continue to grow my knowledge within the sport to be the best coach I can be for the next generation of athletes because I think they deserve it,” Neff said. “I’m very excited to be a part of this program and I think it’s a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding on the finer points of coaching by exposing myself to a higher level of performance at the Canada Summer Games.”
