Former Georgia State and German National Team Head Coach Greg Frady to take helm of NightOwls in 2021
Greg Frady, the Head Coach of the Nanaimo NightOwls, is pleased to announce today four more player commitments, all pitchers, to the NightOwls for the inaugural 2021 West Coast League season at Serauxmen Stadium.
Joining the ballclub are a pair of college teammates in Brooks Zimmer and Matt Houlihan, both currently playing at Montana State University Billings.
Brooks Zimmer

Zimmer, a Billings resident, is a Sophomore this season and was Redshirted in 2020, however in 2019 he served as the closer and was second in the league in saves (6) and carried a nifty 2.50 ERA in 18 innings.

Matt Houlihan

Houlihan, a native of Renton, WA is a Freshman who was able to start five games last season, posting a 3-1 record in 21 innings with a 3.00 ERA

The other two pitchers added to the NightOwls today are likely familiar names to Island and BC Baseball fans, as Canadians Liam Bates (Cloud County Community College) and Jackson Stephen (Marshalltown Community College) are coming to Nanaimo this summer.

Liam Bates

Bates, from Vancouver, BC, is a Freshman this season at Cloud County Community College. In 2019 he put together a very nice 7-1 record in 53 innings for the North Shore Twins in the BCPBL

Jackson Stephen

For Jackson Stephen it’s a homecoming party, as the Cowichan Bay BC, and former Mid-Island Pirate, is a Freshman at Marshalltown Community College. In 2019, Stephen posted a brilliant 7-0 record in 44 innings pitched, with a minuscule 0.63 ERA. A welcome mound for a local boy to call home this summer.

“These are quality young men who want the challenge of being ready for the first season of NightOwls baseball, and we’re going to see what they can do at this next level,” said Frady.
