BC Hockey is pleased to announce that Jeff Harris will join our team in the role of Executive Vice President, Communications.
Harris has extensive experience in hockey administration and communications, including the past 10 years with the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he served as an Assistant General Manager, Hockey Operations and Communications. Prior to his time with the Royals, Harris served as the Assistant General Manager of the Victoria Salmon Kings (ECHL) for four seasons where a part of his duties was spearheading the team’s communication department. In 2007 he was named the ECHL’s Media Relations Director of the Year, and in 2011 he was honoured as Camosun College’s Co-operative Education Sport Exercise Employer of the Year for the intern program he implemented within the Royals’ communications department.
Harris began the communication portion of his career with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen in 2006, and he has also held positions with the Vancouver Canadians (Pacific Coast Baseball League) and the Calgary 88’s (World Basketball League).
This newly formed communications position is part of BC Hockey’s renewed focus on ways to better benefit all members and teams through communication, information flow and content. “An important part of our strategic vision is enhancing the day-to-day communication with all of our members and participants, as well as improving our entire communications infrastructure,” Cameron Hope, Chief Executive Officer of BC Hockey said. “Jeff will be a great addition to our team at an important time, as we return to playing our game in arenas all over BC and Yukon.”
Originally from Calgary, Harris has a degree in Applied Communication from Mount Royal College. He will begin his new role with BC Hockey on May 17.
