John Wilson, part of the ownership group of the Victoria HarbourCats, to sing anthem at a game pending season ticket target being met

John Wilson will sing O Canada at a game this year — but under one condition.

If the Victoria HarbourCats add 50 new season tickets by next Monday, May 9th, the CEO of The Wilson’s Group, Chair of the Victoria Chamber, and one of the owners of the HarbourCats will sing our anthem before a game this summer.

“Some people may not actually want to hear that,” laughed Wilson, a respected leader in the Victoria business scene for decades. “Perhaps if we reach that target, it means I don’t sing.”

“The HarbourCats staff brought this idea to me — let’s do it. Let’s fill the place for our return. The more witnesses to me singing, the better — but really, this is a challenge to our community, to our business sector in particular. Returning to great events has never been more important.”

To line up seats and help get a microphone in John’s hand, contact Christian Stewart at the team office, 778-265-0327, [email protected] or the office at 1814 Vancouver Street.

“We’ve seen great support through COVID, and led our league in attendance prior to that, but there is room for even more people,” said Stewart, who leads the team’s ticketing system. “I know one thing — I want to hear John sing!”

The HarbourCats begin their 2022 West Coast League campaign with their home opener against the Port Angeles Lefties on Tuesday, May 31st at 6:35 pm. A full house is expected for that game, in what will be a celebratory return to baseball after a break of 1,017 days thanks to the cancellation of the past two seasons.
