For the second straight week the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack cross country team had representation at an indoor track meet. This time around, it was at home at the Tournament Capital Centre which was the site of the Gary Reed Indoor Track Meet.
Three members of the WolfPack-Calum Carrigan (Kamloops, BC), Troy Morgan (Hythe, AB) and Liam McGrath (Vernon, BC) competed in three different events.
Carrigan ran in the men’s 18-19 year old 1500 meter run and finished second in a time of 4:13.66 . that was three minutes behind the winner. Morgan and McGrath ran the same distance in the 20-34 year old category. Morgan finished seventh in a time of 4:15.44 while McGrath was ninth finishing in a time of 4:36.56. The winning time was just under four minutes.
Carrigan was fifth in the men’s 1000 meter run in a time of 2:37.86.
While in the men’s 20-34 year old 3000 meter run, Morgan was third in 9:31.73 while McGrath wound up fourth as he crossed the finish line in a time of 10:02.09.
TRU put a team of Sam Dyck (Whitehorse, YT), Kelsy Bentzz (Kamloops, BC), Morgan and Carrigan together for the 4x 400 meter relay and finished second in a time of 3:39 averaging 55 seconds per runner. Trinity Western won that race.
On the Friday, Morgan set a new school record running the 3000 meters in 9:31. McGrath ran a new personal best finishing up at 10:02.
“Great results for our guys, “ said TRU head coach Carmin Mazzota. “ We had two of the top schools in the country-Trinity Western and UVIC in attendance. Overall a great showing as our program moves to a new level.”
