Dalhousie Tigers track and field head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Jaiden Williams and Dan Lord for the 2019-20 season.
Jaiden Williams is a sprinter from Cole Harbour, N.S. A member of HaliFAST Athletics Track Club, he has represented Nova Scotia at the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field championships and finished second as a member of the 800m relay team in 2016. Williams placed second at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) championship this spring in both the 100m and 200m events and his 4x100m relay team finished first. The Auburn Drive High School graduate is also a three-time school MVP for the track team.
“I have been participating in track and field all my life and never thought much about going to university,” says Williams. “I intend to do my best to represent myself, my family and Dalhousie to the best of my ability, in the classroom and on the track.”
Williams will be studying arts and social sciences while attending Dalhousie.
Joining Williams is fellow sprinter Dan Lord. A native of Windsor, N.S., this past spring, he broke the 100m, 200m and 400m records for the NSSAF King’s-Hants District. At the 2018 NSSAF provincial championship, he was a member of the first place 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams and at the 2017 event he won gold in the high jump, silver in the 200m, gold in the 4x100m relay and silver in the 4x400m relay. A member of the 2017 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion track and field team, Lord also finished first at the 2018 Atlantic Track and Field Championships in the 200m and 400m events.
“I am excited to join the Tigers,” says Lord.
Lord will be studying kinesiology while attending Dalhousie.
“Dan and Jaiden are joining what has established itself as one of U SPORTS top sprints programs,” says Lehman. “Both of them are more than ready to compete at the national level and with our depth in that event group, we’ll be able to spread our guys around to ensure that we’re not over racing anyone throughout the season. Jaiden is a product of HaliFAST Athletics, so he is quite familiar with our coaching staff and training programs. Dan is one of the best pure athletes we’ve seen and has a very high upside. Working with Mike Bawol, who I believe is the best 60m coach in U SPORTS right now, these two are ready to build on what is already an extremely successful sprints program.”
