In a first place showdown the Blues and Mariners did not disappoint in a very entertaining game with three of the four goals scored in the first half.

Billy Bagiopoulos got the Mariners on the board first in the 12th minute, however just seconds later the Blues’ Adrian Sahagun was issued a penalty kick, which he made no mistake tying the game at one.

The Blues then took the lead in the 22nd minute when Luca Locascio scored a beauty of a header, his first of the season.

In the second half the Blues continued to pepper the Mariners keeper Michael Heppelle who had to make seven saves to keep the score at one.

In the 53rd minute Shun Takano scored the equalizer for the Mariners his third of the season. In all Heppelle made 10 saves while the Blues’ keeper Nick Luongo made six saves.

Langara Falcons 0

A tight game throughout with great defensive play and the keepers were solid.

The Falcons’ keeper Aleks Kalajdzic was tested as the Royals outshot the Falcons 24-9. He had to make eight saves to keep the Royals off the board. On the other side of the field Felipe Domingos back stopped the Royals making two saves over the course of the game and recorded his second shutout of the year.

The lone goal, the game winner was scored off the foot of Milan Gandesha off a penalty kick in the 49th minute. The marker was his second of the campaign.

This game was also a physical one with five yellow cards issued and one red.

Douglas Royals 1

The first half solved nothing as both teams went back and forth but didn’t record a goal. The Blues outshot the Royals 14-9 in the first half.

Finally the Royals opened the scoring beating keeper Nick Luongo in the 63rd minute, when Taylor Richardson scored his first of the season.

Late in the contest the Blues were pressuring for the equalizer. They got it in the 82nd minute when Adrian Sahagun scored his PACWEST leading sixth goal tying the game.

For the second time this season the Blues scored the game winning goal in injury time when Peter Alexandrakis lit the lamp, his first of the year.

VIU Mariners 2
Langara Falcons 0

The Mariners won their third of the year on Sunday with a shutout of the Falcons. Grayson Chalifoux opened the scoring with his first of the year in the second minute of the game. The goal would turn out to be the game winner.

Before the half, Billy Bagiopoulos added some insurance in the 33rd minute, his second goal of the weekend.

Keeper Kevin Picard recorded his first shutout of the season making just one save which came in the first half.
