The West Kelowna Warriors and Nanaimo Clippers go the distance Saturday night, with the Clippers winning in overtime, 4-3.
The Warriors didn’t get off to the start they wanted with the Clippers drawing first blood. It was a lead pass to Joshua Bourne who took off on a breakaway and beat Johnny Derrick to make it 1-0. The Warriors would answer back two minutes later with Carter Wilkie dancing around the Clippers zone. Wilkie would launch a shot towards Jordan Naylor who made the initial save, but John Evans was able to collect the rebound scoring his 6th of the season to tie it up at one. The Warriors would keep up the pressure three minutes later. While on a change, John Evans would enter the Clippers zone with speed and cross ice pass to Max Bulawka who fired a shot off Naylor and in to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead after one period.
The Warriors came out strong to start the second period but it was the Clippers who got the last laugh. Halfway through the period the Clippers would go on their fourth power play allowing them to tie the game with a Tim Washe goal. Only three minutes later the Clippers would go back on the attack. A quick faceoff win for Sean Donaldson would go back to Trevor LeDonne who wired a slap shot through traffic beating Johnny Derrick to give the Clippers a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.
The Warriors needed a good start in the third period and they got that and more. Majority of the period was spent inside the Nanaimo Clippers zone with the Warriors getting a handful of scoring chances but they couldn’t cash in past Jordan Naylor. Midway through the period the Warriors would go on the powerplay. The rookie trio was cycling inside the Clippers zone, Holden Kodak would fire a shot off Naylor allowing Tyler Cristall to tap into the empty net goal to tie the game up at three forcing overtime.
The Clippers maintained puck possession for the majority of three on three overtime. The Clippers trio of Ethan Scardina, Devon Mussio and Aiden Hansen Bukata would go to work and it would be the Captain Scardina to end the hockley game after beating Johnny Derrick with a wrist shot. Final score 4-3 Clippers.
