UBC Okanagan Heat Softball has been selected to host the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) National Championship in 2020. The CCSA National Championship host alternates between eastern and western Canada. The event is the culmination of the season and involves the top eight teams from across Canada.

“We would like to thank Western Collegiate Softball Association (WCSA) president Randy Plishka and the selection committee for choosing UBC Okanagan to host the 2020 CCSA National Tournament,” said head coach Joni Frei. “I am thrilled for our players and confident our staff, athletics department and the organizing committee will do everything it takes to put on a top-notch event!”

“It’s an exciting time for collegiate softball in B.C. and I’m honoured our program can be a part of that,” added the passionate Heat head coach.

Tom Huisman, UBC Okanagan Athletic Director said, “Being awarded the 2020 National Championship says a lot about the level of respect our first-year team and their leadership group have earned in such a short period of time. This is a national level endorsement, not just for our program, but for the Kelowna and greater Okanagan softball communities.”

UBC Okanagan was supported by Tourism Kelowna and the City of Kelowna for the hosting bid. Kelowna is the perfect location for a fall sporting event with mild weather and scenic surroundings. The tournament will be held this fall at High Noon Park on 4720 Old Vernon Road from Friday, October 9th to Sunday, October 11th.
