Kyler Kovich

Nanaimo Clippers are pleased to announce 2002 born forward, Kyler Kovich, has committed to Cornell University of the NCAA Division 1 for the 2021-2022 season. This is the 11th player on the 2019-2020 roster that has committed to an NCAA Division 1.

Kovich, a second year player with the Clippers, has blossomed into a legitimate NHL prospect and top 6 forward in his sophomore season stacking up 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points in 49 games this season. He is a projected 3-4 round draft pick this year in the NHL having been on the NHL watch list all season.

Kovich represented Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge this season in Dawson Creek and also attended the CJHL Prospect Game back east where he was showcased before a full complement of NHL scouts. Recently he was nominated for Top Male Athlete of the Year from the Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards.

Darren Naylor, Vice-President and Head Coach of the Clippers, commented, “Kovich is mature beyond his years so the coaching staff often forgets he is only an 02. He is such an important player on our team as he plays top 6 minutes, plays the power play and penalty kills. His work ethic is off the charts. Kyler is a rare find as he came in as a underage player and didn’t miss a beat. In talking with NHL teams, Kyler is a lock to be a high draft pick in this years’ NHL entry draft. There is no question, Kyler has worked hard at his game and has been rightfully rewarded. He is a great teammate and very easy to coach. I can see him as a future Clippers Captain moving forward.”
