The Prince George Spruce Kings are excited to announce that General Manager Mike Hawes has signed a three-year contract extension with the team. Hawes is currently in his 16th year with the Spruce Kings hockey club. Hawes began working for the Spruce Kings as an Assistant Coach in 2005 and has worked his way up through the front office ranks and is now currently in his 10th season as the General Manager.
“I am excited and honoured to continue with the Spruce Kings organization. The BCHL has evolved tremendously in my time in this league and I am proud of what we have accomplished and how we have embraced that evolution in Prince George to become a top team and franchise. It has taken a lot of hard work from a lot of people to get the organization to where it is. I have learned the importance of surrounding yourself with like- minded and good people that care deeply about our community and our team. I look forward to the next three seasons as we continue down the path to make the Spruce Kings organization the best organization that it can be.” – Hawes on Extension
Hawes is a Fred Page Cup and Doyle Cup Champion and was also named the 2019 BCHL Executive of the Year. Hawes has also been a part of both Spruce Kings national championship runs including 2008 as an Assistant Coach, and in 2019 as the General Manager.
“I’m happy to sign Mike to a new three-year contract. Mike has been a dedicated member of the Spruce Kings for the last 16 seasons and we are very lucky to have him. Mike strives to make others around him better, from our players, coaching staff, and to our front office. He has a great reputation within the BCHL and across Junior Hockey, which has helped our organization become one of the best in Junior A Hockey. I look forward to the future and the successes that are ahead of us.” – President Dave Keough on Hawes’ Extension
