For the first time since 2017 the West Kelowna Warriors win their home opener after a 5-3 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings Saturday night.

The Warriors got off to a hot start when Captain Elan Bar Lev Wise fired a shot off the stick of Felix Trudeau to make it 1-0 Warriors. The Spruce Kings would go on the attack late and score off a Warriors turnover with John Herrington firing a shot top corner to tie it up at one.

The Spruce Kings would score early in the second frame while shorthanded when Herrington created another turnover beating Warriors Johnny Derrick to give the Spruce Kings a 2-1 lead. After the Spruce Kings goal the Warriors would take over the period. Elan Bar Lev Wise would once again find an open Felix Trudeau to tie the game up at two. Only a minute later Ty Rubin would find Chase Dafoe near the crease allowing the former Trail Smoke Eaters Captain Dafoe to score his first as a Warrior.

In the third the Warriors would get off to a hot start. Only 55 seconds into the period Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero would create a turnover in the Spruce Kings zone and find an open Nick Roukounakis giving the Warriors a 4-2 lead. 5 minutes later it was Ty Rubin’s turn to score his first BCHL goal. Spruce Kings would try and make it interesting making it 5-3 but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors would skate off with a 5-3 victory in front of a sold out crowd in West Kelowna.

The Warriors are back in action Wednesday, October 13th against the Trail Smoke Eaters. Puck drop at 7:00pm from Cominco Arena in Trail. The game will also be broadcast live on HockeyTV and  the BCHLWarriors Mixlr feed.
