The BC Hockey League has added two members to its staff in advance of the 2023-24 regular season.

The league has hired Sean Robertson for the position of Hockey Operations Coordinator, as well as Matt Lawson for the position of Communications Coordinator.

Robertson is a former BCHL player, having spent five years in the league, mostly with the Victoria Grizzlies and finishing his junior career with the Vernon Vipers. He went on to play three years at Merrimack College where he graduated with honours and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Additionally, he played one year at the University of Guelph and another five seasons professionally in North America and Europe.

Robertson’s role will be to manage hockey operations at the league level and to assist with the Department of Player Safety.

Lawson is a nationally-awarded content producer and has previous experience in the league from his time spent in a similar role with the Coquitlam Express and Surrey Eagles. Following his graduation from BCIT’s Broadcast & Online Journalism program in 2019, he has developed a diverse skillset in writing, graphic design, videography, photography and editing.

Lawson will bring those skills to the BCHL through graphic design, game-night social media and producing wide variety of additional content for the league’s website and social media platforms.

“We are excited to welcome Sean and Matt to the BCHL office,” said league Commissioner Steven Cocker. “With the growth of our league in recent years and our goals for the future, it only made sense to add to our already strong group at the league office. We look forward to working alongside Sean and Matt who will help us take our league to the next level in the coming years.”
