Pacific FC achieved victory over TSS Rover FC in penalties on Wednesday night by the score of 1-1 (5-4 in penalties). The game commenced at the beginning of the Canadian Championship. A tournament that features teams as low as League1 British Columbia to Major League Soccer with the Canadian Premier League being a large portion of the teams.

Pacific looked to get their campaign started but had to overcome some adversities as the Rovers were a prideful group who were seeking revenge from the previous year’s Canadian Championship in which Pacific won 2-0.

The Rovers were successful in finding the back of the net first late in the second half as Rovers’ Michael Hennessy snuck one past Pacifics’ goalkeeper Sean Melvin to send a shockwave through starlight stadium in the 75th minute.

After desperation and in the final minute Pacific finally found the back as newly acquired Reon Moore scored leveling the game and sending it to penalties in the 90+8th minute. Pacifics’ Manager James Merriman made the decision to put Emil Gazdov between the posts for the penalties. A decision that panned out well for the Pacific side as Gazdov was able to stop 3 out of 7 penalty takers he faced moving Pacific into the next round of the Canadian Championship.

On the other hand for TSS Rovers FC their campaign ended, however, they played an extremely good brand of soccer that had the Pacific players on their heels at the time.

Pacific’s next game will be on Saturday, May 4th, when they take on York United at 4 pm PST at Starlight Stadium
