17-year-old Cowichan Valley athlete Alexa Dow is now a Canadian National Champion. She competed in the Canadian Cross Country Championships in London, Ontario, on November 30th, winning the U18 girls’ race by 14 seconds—the largest margin of the day. Her 6km time of 21:44 earned her the gold medal and led the Team BC girls to the National Team title.

Alexa finished second last year at the Cross Country Nationals in Ottawa and was determined to win her first national title this year. She trains in Victoria with the Prairie Inn Harriers Youth Racing Team. Dow is the current Canadian record holder in the U18 mile and the provincial record holder in the U18 1500m, as well as the U16 800m, 1200m, and 1500m.

She competed for Team Canada in the 2024 Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, finishing fifth in the 1500m and seventh in the 800m. Dow has signed with NC State University for the fall of 2025, where she will compete for the Wolfpack Cross Country and Track and Field teams in D1 of the NCAA.
