Step aside, Burnaby. There’s a new sheriff in town and it’s the Victoria Shamrocks. The Shamrocks stunned the Burnaby Lakers 13-6 at The Swamp Friday night to jump ahead of the Lakers for first place in the WLA. The Shamrocks improved their winning streak to seven straight games while the Lakers have lost their last three straight games and are now .500 at home.

The new “kings” of Victoria might be Marshal and Jesse as the two brothers combined for 15 points against the Lakers. Marshal reached a career high of seven points while Jesse finished with eight. Chris Boushy also brought the noise for Victoria, getting four goals for the second straight night. The third star of the night and possibly the biggest factor in the game was Rocks netminder Cody Hagedorn, who had 44 saves against Burnaby, and hasn’t given up more than 8 goals in any start this season.

Tyler Digby led the Lakers in points with four points. However, the biggest story of the night might have been Eric Penney getting pulled for the first time this season. Penney gave up 9 goals on 26 shots and was pulled midway through the second period in favour of Zach Boychuk, who stopped 13 shots in his first appearance of the season. Brandon Clelland went 9 of 22 in the faceoff dot but did manage to score for the second consecutive game.
