VICTORIA- The University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team is pleased to announce the commitment of 16-year-old Ethan Boag for the 2020-21 season.
“We are very excited to have Ethan join the Vikes program,” said head coach Craig Beaucamp, who has led the Vikes for the last 16 seasons. “Ethan has played for our Vikes Nation Club program since he was 12-years old. It has been enjoyable to watch him develop into an elite high school player and our coaching staff believes he has the potential to be an excellent player at the university level.”
Boag is currently a Grade 11 playing at Claremont Secondary School in Victoria, B.C. where he is being coached by Vikes alumni Brandon Dunlop and also spent time playing under current Vikes assistant coach Josh Mullen in the Vikes Nation club basketball program.
“Ethan has been a powerful force for Claremont basketball over the last few years,” said Dunlop. “His rebounding and shot blocking skills as well as his ability to stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting makes him a valuable player on any team. As a former Vike I am very proud that Ethan chose to attend the University of Victoria. It is a huge benefit for both the team and basketball community when UVic can add local talent.”
The 6’9 forward has already won multiple tournament MVP awards and individual athlete awards to go along with several tournament and island championships with Claremont and the Vikes Nation program.
“I have really enjoyed my time with the Vikes Nation program at UVic,” stated Boag. “I love the facilities and what the campus has to offer. I have so much respect for the Vikes coaching staff and I believe the university will allow me to perfectly balance my education and basketball career.”
Boag plans to enrol in business when he arrives at the University of Victoria campus in the fall of 2020.
“UVic is a great school and offers all the programs I am looking for. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to progress both my academic and basketball careers in my hometown.”
