The Nanaimo Clippers Junior A Hockey team is pleased to announce that their 2019-2020 captain, Ethan Scardina, has committed to Bowling Green State University where he will play NCAA Division I hockey with the Falcons, likely beginning in the 2020-2021 season.
After a slow start due to injury, Scardina has been a force for the Clippers this year and currently sits 11th in BCHL scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points over 17 games. When Ethan Scardina is playing at his best, the Clippers are unbeatable which shows the impactful nature of Scardina. Darren Naylor, Head Coach and GM of the Clippers, stated: “Bowling Green is getting a top end elite prospect in Ethan. He is one of the strongest players in the BCHL and has the ability to dominate games. He has an NHL level release and has scored some impressive goals for us this season and last. He was by far the best player at the BCHL showcase a few weeks back and has been carrying the Clippers on his back some games. He’s going to excel at the NCAA Division I level and is almost guaranteed to play some level of pro hockey in the future.”
Scardina was the key part of the preseason trade with the Cowichan Valley Capitals before the 2018-2019 season. He came to the Clippers after a year with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and led the team in scoring last year with 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points in 54 games. Again, this year he’s leading the Clippers in scoring.
Wes Mussio, owner of the Clippers noted: “Anyone watching the Clippers this year will see Scardina as one of our best players every night. He’s leading our three stars selection this year by quite a lot. When he’s on, it’s pretty hard to beat the Clippers. Even off the ice, he’s been an incredibly important part of our program ensuring that we have a close knit dressing room which helps with team success. Bowling Green definitely committed to a top-end talent in Scardina”.
