For the 12th time this season the No. 1 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies defeated an opponent by 40 points or more after they took down the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat by a score of 85-41 inside the PAC on Saturday night.
Running out to a 46-9 lead at the half, the Huskies used a dominant opening 20 minutes to cruise to victory.
Four different players reached double-digits for Saskatchewan led by Megan Ahlstrom who was a perfect 4-4 from beyond-the-arc en route to 16 points. Summer Masikewich (15), Kyla Shand (13) and Libby Epoch (10) rounded out the scoring for Saskatchewan.
Jordan Korol had another strong night for the Heat, finishing with 16 points on 7-18 shooting from the floor.
A major difference on the night was efficiency.
Saskatchewan hit 31 of the 64 shots they attempted on the night for a team field goal percentage of 48.4 while simultaneously limiting the Heat to 21.7.
The win improves the Huskies to 17-1 in the regular season, giving them a chance to set a program record for winning percentage. The Huskies can wrap up their slate at 19-1 which would put them just ahead of the 2010-11 team that went 22-2.
Meanwhile, the clash served as the final game of the season for the Heat.
Katie Punia, Ana Evans and Korol are all fifth-year athletes that suited up for the final time for the Heat.
Saskatchewan will be back in action next weekend in Edmonton in a two-game series against the Alberta Pandas in a matchup between a pair of conference frontrunners.
