Parksville Volleyball Club Thunder 14U Girls attended the Island Regionals this weekend hosted by the Mariners Volleyball Club at Dover Bay High School in Nanaimo.   Club teams from around the Island were in attendance.  In the round robin, PVC convincingly beat Mariners and Campbell River Crush both in 2 sets leading up to the final game against Victoria.   The girls played hard however lost in the 3rd set 15 – 13.   This placed the girls in the top bracket leading into the playoff round.

PVC met Comox Valley Volleyball Club Strikers in the semi-finals.  This proved to be a tough match also going to three sets.  “We played Comox Valley a few weeks ago in a friendly match at Oceanside School”, said Coach Rod Pick.  “They beat us that game and my team wanted redemption.  Our girls were up for the challenge.”  The girls lost the first set however battled hard in the 2nd to take it to a 3rd set.  PVC was up 10 – 8 when Amanda Gregson #13 served 5 straight coming out victorious 15 – 8 and going on to the Gold medal match.   “This was truly a team effort”, say Coach Pick.  “The girls would never have had a chance to get to the finals if the whole team didn’t contribute in this match.   It was a great team bonding moment for our girls”.

In the final, PVC met Victoria for the 2nd time and again went to 3 sets.   “This is a very well coached team that we were up against however we knew if we could get to 3 we could wear them down”, says Pick.   The 3rd set went back and forth however PVC held their composure and ended up winning in a nail biting 15 – 13 to win the Island Regionals 14U Girls Volleyball BC title!     In the 30 years of this Island championship for Club Volleyball, PVC has only won it once before in 2002.  “I could not be more proud of these girls, they have all worked very hard this year and so deserved this”.
