June 18, 2019 Victoria, BC (ISN) – Last weekend the Island Football League, run by the Vancouver Island Canadian Football Association, held their 2019 Spring football semi-finals, setting up a three-division island final showcase June 23rd in Ladysmith, BC, each for the bragging rights to claim the VICFA Cup and top spot on Vancouver Island.
In the atom division, the Cowichan Bulldogs advanced to play the Westshore Warriors with a narrow 19-14 win over the Victoria Spartans. The Bulldogs, with a regular season 6-4 record will look for their best game of the season against a dominating 9-1 Warriors team.
The PeeWee Saanich Wolverines would advance to the championship game with a 32-8 thrashing of the Victoria Spartans. The 8-2 Wolverines will have a tough battle on their hands against the undefeated Westshore Warriors team with a 298-64 point for and against record over the ten game regular season.
In the Junior Bantam division, the Victoria Spartans, posting their third team in the playoffs this season took on an equally strong Cowichan Bulldog team. With both teams finishing with comparable 8-2 records. Their only match up of the season a forfeiture , both teams would go into the semifinal game untested in he regular season. The Cowichan Bulldogs would get the better of the Spartans, defeating them 34-14 to punch their ticket to the “ship” against the 10-0 Gordon Head Raiders.
