April 2nd, 2022 Saanich, BC (ISN) – Vancouver Island’s youth football kicked of the spring season with a day-long jamboree Saturday hosted by the Greater Victoria Football Season at Copley Park in Saanich, BC.
Atom, PeeWee, and Junior Bantam football teams from as far as Parksville, BC descended on Copley Park to test their grid-iron skills in head-to-head, fun, yet competitive scrimmages in preparation for the season that lays ahead for each squad.
With the level of football athleticism displayed, it is clear that island, community football alive and kicking despite a 2 year CoVid hyatus that sidelined all non-professional sports in BC and Canada.
The Westshore Warriors, Saanich Wolverines, Victoria Spartans, Cowichan Bulldogs, Nanaimo Seahawks, Oceanside Lions ( Parksville ) all represented their respective communities leaving all out on the field in stellar effort. Well done to all players, coaches, and to the GVMFA !!
Here is a small look at some of the action through ISN photographer Erich Eichhorn’s lens as he camped out for the day at Copley Park to catch the action.
