May 29th, 2022 Victoria, BC ( ISN ) – It was all business this weekend in Vancouver Island Minor Football as teams turned up the heat turning into the home stretch with only two weeks remaining in the regular season.
ISN was on hand Saturday at Copley Park where the Saanich Wolverines hosted the Cowichan Bulldogs. The PeeWee Wolverines would come away with a 24-6 victory and extend their undefeated streak to 6-0 to share top spot in the standings with the Westshore Warriors who sat idle this past week. The Junior Bantam Wolverines would dominate the game, scoring three times in the first six touches of the ball to rock the Bulldogs back on their paws, jumping out to a 24-0 lead. The Junior Bantam’s would finish out the game with the clock running and taking the the win 40-0. The PeeWee Nanaimo Seahawks would defeat the Victoria Spartans at Goudy field ( score not available at press time ).
Sunday saw another Junior Bantam tilt as the number three Westshore Warriors would battle the fifth place Victoria Spartans. The Warriors would muster out a 16-0 win over the Spartans, despite a strong defensive effort by the black and gold. With the win, the Warriors can still climb the ladder with two games remaining but with this weekend’s win are assured of at least a third place finish in the regular season.
