April 10,2022 Saanich, BC (ISN) – The Junior Bantam Westshore Warriors scored, and scored often Saturday against Parksville’s Oceanside Lions to open their spring regular season with a 38-6 victory.
The Lions, outsized in individual player stature and a fielded 12-player roster, visted the Warriors at Copley Park after some onfield successes last weekend on the same field where the Greater Victoria Minor Football Association held an ice-breaker football jamboree for island community football teams from as far as Nanaimo and Parksvile.
As for the Paul Precious-coached JB Warriors, the season looks promising despite being only one week into a 9-week schedule. Warrior’s QB Jake Hansen orchestrated a balance game for his squad, distributing the rock both on the ground and through the air with confidence in his teammates to contribute in the win.
The Warriors would jump out to an early lead by half-time, only conceding the lone Lion’s touchdown in the same half to take a comfortable 31-6 lead and never look back.
Westshore’s Sachin Olak would shine on both sides of the ball, lead the way for the Warriors with two TD’s and an interception. Westshore would also get a pair of touchdowns from #5 – Darius Gray, and #71-Parker Fugle-Gilliam would also factor on the scoreboard, rushing for a four yard TD to round out the scoring.
Next weekend, the JB Warriors take on their cross-town rival Saanich Wolverines April 18th, while the Lions will host the Victoria Spartans.
